Advanced Collector System (ACS)

Having the ability to exert control over particles in the breathing zone is one of the most critical aspects of any filtration system being employed by an airport, casino, commercial building, hospital, healthcare clinic, laboratory, sports arena, vivarium or any other building concerned with Indoor Air Quality.

The problem with today’s typical filtration systems is that the critical particles that can have a negative effect on the health of human beings never actually get to the systems filtration banks! This is a common and misunderstood fact about filtration systems. Unfortunately, the market has provided devices that are mostly substandard and only partially deliver the performance and benefits that are advertised.

SecureAire’s Advanced Collector System is today’s most advanced Electronically Enhanced Air Purification System for all markets. The ACS utilizes semiconductor airborne contamination reduction technologies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of SecureAire’s filtration media, while providing Active Particle Control, which helps to actually clean the particles from an indoor space. The ACS System also provides airborne pathogen inactivation thru our INACTIVATE™ Technology. INACTIVATE reduces organism’s ability to grow and provides the necessary voltage strength to oxidize and kill airborne pathogens.

As previously mentioned, “the ACS is the only system” that utilizes Active Particle Control, which actually controls the movement of particles in a space. This Technology provides the ability to treat all airborne challenges (Particles, TVOC’s, Smoke, Odors and dissolved gases) the same.

Active Particle Control provides the ability to make airflow the dominant transport mechanism for airborne pathogens and contaminants in any space.

General Health Care - Airflow and Pressure Controls

  • General Health Care - Airflow and Pressure Controls

The Theris® brand of products are designed specifically for hospitals and critical care facilities and can help facility owners reduce maintenance costs, reduce the spread of airborne pathogens and conserve more energy.

Advantages and Benefits
Flexibility

  • Less testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) means faster commissioning–Phoenix Controls venturi valves meter flow and don’t measure flow. Devices that measure flow, like a terminal box, must typically be field characterized for the installation condition. Imagine commissioning a new or reconfigured HVAC system by just turning the fans on. TAB is virtually eliminated with venturi valves.
  • Integrates easily with LonTalk® or BACnet® networks–Theris® is offered in a LonMark®-certified or BTL BACnet®-certified controller and seamlessly plugs into the open LON or native BACnet network.
  • Pressure-independent operation–Design up to 30% shorter duct runs throughout the HVAC system. Theris valves operate accurately even with short or angled duct sections. Precise airflow delivery rate is never compromised when there are changes in static pressure. Use the Theris -TX Shut-off Valve option to eliminate the need for extra dampers and controls to isolate the mechanical ductwork.
  • Shut-off capability–In healthcare, needs for gaseous decontamination or HVAC isolation are not always considered during the planning stage. Planning a valve up front that can control airflow precisely with low-leakage shut-off can save thousands of dollars.

Operational Costs

Energy Conservation

  • High turndown ratios saves energy–The design of the venturi valve body and cone assembly means higher turndown ratios than a traditional VAV terminal box–up to 20:1 versus 3:1. With better accuracy, you are saving energy with lower air volume and it will not compromise room pressurization. This is especially important in operating rooms that use high airflow and more outdoor air.

Reduced Maintenances Costs

  • No flow sensors means no maintenance – All venturi valves are characterized for their full flow range at the factory, with a 48-point flow table loaded onto the controller. This means there are no flow sensors to clean, ever.
  • Fewer controllers per room – The Theris controller provide a full electronic platform to control temperature and monitor humidity and pressure, eliminating the need for additional controllers in the space.
  • Tiered control platforms (TP, TX, SO/EO, and CV) – There are many different applications within a healthcare facility. Having a choice of four control schemes (TP, TX, SO/EO, and CV) allows you to distribute necessary costs and value only where it is required.

General Operating Room Ceiling Systems

  • General Operating Room Ceiling Systems

Precision Air Products [PAP] niche is the Operating Room or anywhere laminar flow is critical to the success of your project. PAP understands that a quality ceiling system goes beyond what you see from the room. It's the integrity of the diffusers, the quality of the components, the characteristics of the air, and your control of potentially harmful particulate.

From general operating rooms, imaging spaces, hybrid OR's and high-risk operating spaces PAP has solutions. PAP's value is that they know critical healthcare applications better than anyone - and we're willing to support you every step of the way! Their No-Fee Engineering Assist will get you the compliant design that you desire... no matter how complicated the ceiling!

Remember, the diffuser matters. You can't judge a diffuser by its face, and submittals reveal precious little about their construction. Take a closer look and you'll see striking differences. Why does the diffuser matter? Monolithic ceilings create important barriers intended to prevent potentially dangerous contaminants from entering an operating room from interstitial space. Some diffuser designs violate the integrity of the monolithic ceiling, creating pathways that can expose surgical patients to unnecessary risks. Furthermore, some HEPA diffusers are constructed in a manner that can result in filter bypass, allowing unfiltered supply air to enter an operating room directly above the surgical patient.

The Lami-Air family of integrated ceiling ventilation systems goes beyond industry standards and guidelines - and for good reason. Standards and guidelines represent minimum requirements, but surgical patients deserve more. Leverage our expertise and let our No-Fee Engineering Assistance simplify your project.

PAP's systems combine laminar or HEPA diffusers with a robust, gasketed framing system that forms a single-assembly in the ceiling. Framed openings accommodate general OR lay-in light fixtures. Fill-in panels complete the aesthetic. Functional, compliant ceiling systems that "look like they were meant to be there".

Furthermore, some HEPA diffusers are constructed in a manner that can result in filter bypass, allowing unfiltered supply air to enter an operating room directly above the surgical patient.

The HEPA-Vent DS point of delivery HEPA unit offers important safeguards for surgical patients. A unique dual knife-edge coupled with the shortest Critical Seam Length on the market, provides multiple protections focused on improving patient outcomes.

The HEPA-Vent DS is a dual chamber diffuser with a dual knife-edge. The upper chamber, or pressure chamber, of the HEPA-Vent DS houses the Camfil-Farr Megalam® HEPA filter. The 0.063” thick plenum is stamped, and then fabricated with fully welded corners. The plenum box forms one of the knife-edges. The second knife-edge is formed by the faceplate extrusion. This design eliminates any potential for filter bypass while acting as an added protection against interstitial pathways. Combined, the HEPA-Vent DS creates the highest integrity HEPA diffuser on the market.

Protection against Interstitial Pathways

Critical Seam Length is the total amount of mating surface within a HEPA diffuser that must be caulked or sealed. Some competitive HEPA diffusers have more than 18 lineal feet of caulking as their primary seal between their split plenum box and interstitial space. Caulking can lose its adhesion over time and with handling. In some cases the caulking can fail before the diffuser is even installed.

Other than the inlet collar, the only critical seams on our HEPA-Vent DS are the corners, which are fully welded and caulked. The caulking becomes a secondary protection, not the only protection. Representing approximately 2 lineal feet, this dual protection against interstitial pathways creates the highest integrity plenum box of any diffuser on the market.

Furthermore, some HEPA diffusers are constructed in a manner that can result in filter bypass, allowing unfiltered supply air to enter an operating room directly above the surgical patient.

Why does the diffuser matter?

In an operating room it gets very real very quick. Contaminated air entering an OR above the operating theater can put a surgical patient at risk. Lower cost, split-plenum box diffusers often create dangerous pathways between interstitial space and the OR. Contaminants from interstitial space can be drawn into such diffusers where they mix with clean air and are delivered into an OR directly above the surgical patient.

Furthermore, some single chamber diffuser designs do little to characterize air flow. This can lead to turbulence, aspiration, and particle entrainment that can similarly put a surgical patient at risk.

Design and construction of the Lami-Vent Laminar Diffuser minimizes the potential for pathways and eliminates the possibility of aspiration.

The Lami-Vent™ is a true dual chamber laminar diffuser. Its construction, performance, and appearance earned a position as Basis-of-Design for Master Specifications throughout the United States. The Lami-Vent™ sustains the reputation for "best-in-class" construction, performance, and aesthetics. This diffuser has offered un-matched value since its introduction in 1974.

MRI Spaces

  • MRI Spaces

Airtelligence, Inc. represents manufacturers which build solutions for both air distribution and O2 depletion monitoring for use in these spaces.

In today’s MRI units, superconducting magnets are the most commonly used type of magnets. Their construction is similar to that of a resistive magnet—a current of electricity is passed through coils or windings of wire—to create the required magnetic field. The wire is continually bathed in a plumbing labyrinth of liquid helium that is maintained at 452.4 degrees below zero. This extreme cold drops the wire’s resistance to zero, reducing the electrical requirements for the system, making it much more economical to operate. The other main component of an MRI system is a very powerful computer system that enables the transmission of RF (radio frequency) pulses into the patient's body while they are in the scanner.

The large quantity of helium required to maintain the magnet’s operating temperature creates a critical safety concern. A helium leak can cause an oxygen-deficient atmosphere that can place the patient at risk. At times, MRI patients are sedated and are unable to signal any potential problem to the MRI operator. In addition, early detection of oxygen deficiency caused by a helium leak can offer protection to the MRI unit itself by signaling a shutdown event.

Airtelligence, Inc. solution is unique and economical which offers fast, reliable protection from the hazards of oxygen defiency caused by helium coolant leaks.

The Toxgard II Monitor incorporates a sample draw pump system that uses no metal components near or inside the actual MRI room, eliminating RF interference from the MRI system. The Toxgard II Monitor is mounted in the operator’s office for almost instantaneous notification of a leak via the local audible alarm and flashing LED display.

Pandemic Response - Airflow and Pressure Controls

  • Pandemic Response - Airflow and Pressure Controls

Phoenix Controls healthcare systems provide immediate room conversions that contain highly contagious disease and assure the integrity of surrounding spaces and their occupants. Activated by either the BMS or a local wall switch mounted external to the room; Theris Pandemic Mode overrides normal control to achieve negative room pressure, drive return valves to shutoff, increase exhaust, and command supply to a predetermined setting including shutoff.

Environmental settings for heating, cooling, auxiliary control, humidity, and other parameters can also be configured and activated when the room converts. If an APM2 is wired into the room, a status banner can be displayed on-screen and an audible alarm sounded to alert healthcare staff and provide live data for pressure, ACH, temperature, and humidity.

Once the crisis is past, on command the room can be seamlessly moved to decontamination mode, then reverted to use without down time or lengthy transitions.
